Soon after the launch of iPhone 5 and iOS 6 almost a month ago, my inbox was flooded with queries related to iPhone 5 unlocking. Like any other major iOS update, iOS 6 also came baseband update for all iOS devices. All those questions were not just limited to iPhone 5 but there were people who updated their older iOS devices including iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS to iOS 6 and lost their unlocks.

Now let’s jump to the most frequently asked question:

Can I unlock iPhone on iOS 6?

Well, the answer is different for all iPhones because every iPhone — be it iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS or even iPhone have different unlocking techniques. So instead of wrapping it up in just one paragraph I will answer them separately.

iPhone 4 Unlock on iOS 6:

I know most of people are looking for an answer to this question. There’s no significant development in unlocking world when it comes to iPhone 4. More than 90% iPhone 4 unlockers were stuck on infamous baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 but didn’t get any solution to this problem. BUT from time to time we have posted some solutions which included a very clever way of Factory Unlocking your iPhone 4 for free by exploiting a vulnerability in Apple’s activation servers but that didn’t long last because Apple patched it in a matter days after it went viral in unlocking community. So, if you’re using an iPhone 4 and you’re stuck on iOS 6 I would suggest that you get your iPhone 4 factory unlocked directly from your carrier.

iPhone 4S Unlock on iOS 6:

There’s no software unlock available for iPhone 4S on any iOS version as yet but there are hardware unlocking solutions like R-SIM, Gevey Ultra S and other interposer SIMs which can unlock your iPhone 4S on all iOS versions EXCEPT iOS 6. Hardware unlock developers are working on bringing iPhone 4S unlock for iOS 6 but there’s no news from the development team as yet. So, if you’re an iPhone 4S user and you have updated your device to iOS 6 then you can either get your iPhone 4S factory unlocked from your carrier or wait for the development team to come up with Gevey SIM Unlock for iPhone 4S running iOS 6.

iPhone 5 iOS 6 Unlock:

In our previous take on iPhone 5 unlocking we mentioned that there’s no unlocking solution available for iPhone 5 but things are a little different now. If you have an AT&T locked iPhone 5 you can get it unlocked from authentic unlock resellers. Yes, you can unlock iPhone 5 on iOS 6 permanently. So far, factory unlock is the only iPhone 5 unlocking solution available for iPhone 5. But it is important to note here that this unlocking solution is available for iPhone 5s which are locked to AT&T only.
